Before I have the students guess the idiom, I draw a bucket on the board and ask the students what we use buckets for. The idiom 'kick the bucket' is reviewed with the students. The idea is to show how some lists are important and well-written whereas others are quick, random thoughts that are recorded.' Once we have several ideas, I pick two lists, one that may be very important and one that is not as crucial and we discuss the differences in the lists. Using a shoulder partner, I have the students brainstorm the different lists people create.
